Magic School Bus Oceans Nintendo DS game (Scholastic Games)

Scholastic Games sent me their new Magic School Bus Oceans Nintendo DS game for review on my geek dad blog. The game is the first Nintendo DS game based on The Magic School Bus series. The game retails for $19.99 and will be available in stores starting tomorrow (October 25th). Bottom line: the video game is educational and young kids will get a kick out of MSB Oceans — especially if they have read books in The Magic School Bus series or seen the TV shows. The game is rated E for everyone, but younger children will enjoy the game more than older kids.

What I like about Magic School Bus Oceans

  • It’s educational and kids will learn some things about ocean life
  • There are six areas of the ocean to explore (five levels are locked initially)
  • It’s fairly easy to play, but you have to paid attention when the game tells you what you have to do
  • According to the press release, there are seven games and nearly 200 ocean interactions
  • You can discover over 100 facts and see over 100 sea animals

What I didn’t like about Magic School Bus Oceans

  • Some of the games are fun, but don’t seem educational
  • Not sure why you need to use the stylus to follow the ball in order to drive the bus to a different level/area
