Review: OnPage Smartphone Pager App for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Blackberry, and Android Devices

Onset Technology OnPage smartphone paging app

I recently downloaded the OnPage app (Onset Technology). The mobile app essentially turns your smartphone into a pager. It’s pretty neat and is a very handy tool for dads and moms. I tested the app on my Apple iPod Touch and it works great. However, the iPod Touch isn’t an ideal device because you need to be able to connect to the Internet 24×7. Otherwise, you won’t receive the alerts when someone is trying to contact you. The Onset Technology app works better with iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, and Android devices.

The OnPage app is free to download and it includes a 14-day trial. After that, you will have to subscribe to their service if you want to continue to receive alerts. The fee is $13.99 per month (annual subscription). However, I have a promo code that will reduce the cost to only $8 a month. When you are ready, use this promo code: zach2

With the OnPage app, people can page you by emailing or calling you with a phone. With email, people can send you a message too. With a phone, people can only leave a phone number (like a traditional paging service).

I found the app easy to use. The only problem I had was figuring out to page myself with a phone. At first I couldn’t figure out how to enter by OnPage id on my phone because my id contains letters. But then I realized I just need to use the numeric equivalent on the phone’s keypad. Duh. Sometimes I am an idiot.

OnPage alert

The OnPage application actually started out as an enterprise solution for government agencies, hospitals, and large IT companies. But then families also started subscribing to the paging service in order to better stay in touch with loved ones, babysitters, coaches, and schools. The priority messaging application is designed to rise above the clutter of texts, emails, and voicemails. Unlike texting and phone calls, the app will continue to alert you until you have acknowledged and read the alert. BTW, you can also set the alert to vibrate instead of a paging sound.
